Every semester, Tsikbal students take an endearing trip to Chiapas where they get to observe much more of the cultural and natural diversity of Mexico. The intention of this trip is to deepen the reflection and, above all, to nurture their perspectives on these geographies.
From very early on they met at the Tsikbal facilities to undertake the trip by land, which lasted until they arrived in Chiapas.
“We arrived in San Cristóbal de las Casas and in the whole town you could walk with cobbled streets. We went to the market many times, we entered the temples, we rode horses and we also entered an art shop.” -Estefania, 2023.
They also visited Palenque, an important archaeological site, an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
“I didn't think that in so few days we could see so much, but from the first day we stayed near a river. It was close to the archaeological site of Palenque and everything was so beautiful and we were able to climb the pyramids, I had so much fun and learned a lot. Since it was very hot, we went to a waterfall and it was refreshing.” Estefania, 2023
It is very exciting to tell and share these experiences with students. Their testimonies reflect a small part of how much is lived, felt, perceived and seen in Chiapas.
